In case you didn't know, the reopening of the Paris-Milan high-speed line is scheduled for March 31, 2025. Beyond the possibility of linking these two fashion capitals in just a few hours, this is also excellent news for those wishing to explore Italy by night train, as many Intercity Notte lines depart from Milan or Turin (also served by TGV Inoui and Frecciarossa).

The Intercity Notte network covers a large part of Italy, linking the main northern cities with the southern regions and Sicily. Here are just a few of the routes on offer:

If you like unusual experiences, you should also know that trains crossing the Strait of Messina ride on a ferry! A unique experience, with a crossing lasting around 30 minutes.

That's right! You can book your Intercity Notte night train at Interrail official website. Please note that the booking fee via Interrail is €2 per person per train, with an additional €9 per order for paper tickets.

Reservations are compulsory (including with the Interrail Pass), and are available from up to 6 months in advance. And to pay for your tickets at the best price, you probably know the drill: the sooner the better (prices increase as the departure date approaches)!
This rule applies even more if you are using an Interrail Pass, as the number of seats and beds reserved for Pass holders is limited.
You can take your pet with you on board Intercity Notte, as long as you reserve a compartment or cabin.
Small dogs, cats and other small pets are admitted free of charge in first and second class, provided they are carried in a cage or container no larger than 70 x 30 x 50 cm. Each passenger is authorized to carry only one cage.
Larger dogs are also allowed on board, provided they are kept on a leash and muzzled. You'll also need to buy a ticket for your pet (€5 from Sunday to Friday and €1 on Saturday).
